It is 1696 and three young men from the Orkney Islands set out on what proves to be a life changing journey into a different land and a different culture.

The fur trade draws European men into the sub arctic zone of Canada. They meet a challenging climate, dangerous animals and conflict with other Europeans. But they also through First Nations women find love and knowledge, and a new belief.
