"Open Letter to President McKinley by Colored People of Massachusetts" by Colored National League is an open letter from prominent African-American citizens of Boston to President William McKinley protesting presidential inaction and toleration of racial prejudice, discrimination and violence against African Americans in the South. Sent in October of 1899, the writers of this letter plead with the president to ensure equal rights so that African American men and women can build successful and productive lives.
