Die Beiträge dieses Bandes beleuchten aus der Praxis heraus exemplarisch verschiedene Seelsorgefelder. Denn erst von einer solchen Annäherung an ihre Vielgestaltigkeit lässt sich nach einem Verständnis von Seelsorge heute angesichts ihrer Pluralität fragen.

What does it mean when we talk of "pastoral care" today? A look at the various fields of pastoral care shows a differentiated picture: the context in which a specific pastoral care takes place has always a determining influence on how it is seen. For instance what is the self-image of pastoral care in hospital, in emergency pastoral care, at the phone, in school or in congregation? What are the underlying conceptions? Pastoral care, is it today a "first language with many tongues"? And what are the unifying factors?

The contributions of this volume describe from practical experience exemplarily various fields of pastoral care. Only such an approach to its different forms allows an understanding of pastoral care in all its plurality.
