"The Abbot's Ghost, or Maurice Treherne's Temptation" by Louisa May Alcott follows Maurice Trherne, who became crippled after saving his cousin's life during a mishap on water. His cousin, Jasper, however, isn't always the most outwardly grateful, and when Maurice falls in love with Octavia, his condition causes her mother to keep these two apart until a ghost appears to intervene and make it a Christmas worth remembering.
