"The Fatal Glove" tells the story of Archer Trevlyn, a young boy working as a street-sweeper. Archer seeks to bring a ray of happiness to his ailing mother through the gift of a white rose. One day, while passing a horticultural store, he stops to admire the flowers in the window and longs to buy a white rose for his mother. However, when he enters the store and inquires about the price, the clerk accuses him of being a thief and orders him to leave. Just as Archer is leaving, a kind little girl named Margie Harrison appears and offers to buy the flowers for him to give to his mother. Overwhelmed by her kindness, Arch accepts the flowers and promises to take good care of them. Margie disappears in a glittering carriage, and Arch continues on his way home, eagerly anticipating the joy the flowers will bring to his mother. Unbeknownst to him, his ailing mother is dead and he is the grandson of an Earl.
