"The Red Rat's Daughter" by Guy Boothby

Guy Newell Boothby was a prolific Australian novelist and writer, noted for sensational fiction. This book follows Browne, 28 year-old bachelor soap manufacturer, who finds himsel in a Norwegian fjord. While there, he's momentarily left alone as his companions leave his boat to go for a hike.
