Bea's friend Christian lives on a farm when it is suddenly flooded by the stream behind the house. Some rooms and furniture are destroyed, and the two have to gather the damaged items outside in a pile. Bea is magically drawn to the barn, where she finds an old, rusty box. She hopes it's a treasure chest, but when Christian opens it with a pair of bolt cutters, a very different treasure comes to light...

At the same time, Bernadette, a nun, flees a convent in 1940 with a secret that weighs heavily on her heart. She has experienced terrible things that she will never forget and wants to find peace with her parents.
